PepsiCo is one of more than 40 companies that have been awarded the Terra Carta Seal
PURCHASE, N.Y., Nov. 3, 2021 -- PepsiCo, Inc. today announced it has been awarded the Terra Carta Seal from His Royal Highness (HRH) The Prince of Wales.
The inaugural 2021 Terra Carta Seal, designed by Sir Jony Ive KBE, recognizes global companies which are driving innovation and demonstrating their commitment to, and momentum towards, the creation of genuinely sustainable markets. It is being awarded to companies who like PepsiCo have set out ambitions aligned with those of the Terra Carta, a recovery plan for Nature, People and Planet, launched in January 2021.
PepsiCo is working to advance the goals outlined in the Terra Carta through pep+ (pep Positive), a strategic end-to-end transformation with sustainability at the center of how the company will create growth and value by operating within planetary boundaries and inspiring positive change for the planet and people. pep+ is born out of the recognition that an accelerated pace is required if we are to achieve a 1.5-degree target, restore biodiversity, and benefit the lives and livelihoods of current and future generations.
Anchored in the company’s goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040, pep+ directly links the future of PepsiCo’s business with the future of our planet, for the benefit of both – from how PepsiCo sources ingredients and makes and sells its products; to how it inspires consumers through its iconic brands to make better choices for themselves and the planet; to how it supports communities and improves livelihoods throughout its supply chain.
His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, said: “The Terra Carta Seal recognizes those organizations which have made a serious commitment to a future that is much more sustainable, and puts Nature, People and the Planet at the heart of the economy. We all need to make changes if we are to preserve the planet for our children and grandchildren and these businesses have pledged to make it easier for us all to do so.”
The Terra Carta Seal is awarded to companies who hold a leadership position within their industry and who have credible transition roadmaps underpinned by globally recognized, scientific metrics for achieving net zero by 2050 or earlier.
“PepsiCo is proud of the steps we are taking to help build a more sustainable food system for both people and the planet,” said PepsiCo Chairman and CEO Ramon Laguarta, “and we are grateful to His Royal Highness for recognizing PepsiCo’s contribution to this global effort. But more than the recognition, we applaud the steps Terra Carta is taking to help create a ‘race to the top’ and rally the world towards a more sustainable future.”
